Murchison Falls Boat Safari – What to expect.
The trips to the falls can either be done in the morning or afternoon. The afternoon is a favourite for many as this is when most wildlife is found of coming down for a drink or a shower on the Nile shores. The afternoon is also the perfect time to get proper sightings of the world Second largest crocodiles (after Australia’s Saltwater Crocs) – the Nile Crocodiles.
The Australian Salt water Crocs are up to 30% bigger than the Nile croc. The Nile crocs can reach a length of 4 – 5m and weigh up to 550 – 750Kgs.
For photographers, the morning light might be what you need to capture the unfoldings along the Nile river. So depending on what your interests are, you choose to take the morning or afternoon trip.
When is the best time to go on a Murchison Falls Boat Safari?
The best time to visit Murchison Falls National Park and go on a boat Safari is in the dry season months of December to February. However, for those that are not bothered by the rains, the wet season months of June to November are still rewarding especially for photographers seeking to capture jaw-dropping shots of the green landscapes.
What to bring on my boat safari to the falls
- A hat or cap.
- Long shirt and trouser for extra protection esp. if taking the afternoon trip.
- Sunscreen.
- Repellent.
- Raincoat in case it rains.
- Plenty of water (You can buy some onboard wild frontiers boats).
- Hiking boots if you intend to hike up Murchison Falls.
- Camera for personal photography needs.
** If you intend to disembark the boat and hike up the popular Baker’s trail, then ensure that you make personal arrangements with your driver to pick you up at the top of the falls – otherwise you are stuck.
Who should I book my Murchison Falls Boat Safari with?
While all service providers are generally good at what they do, we have a preference for Wildfrontiers as they have very experienced skippers (Boat captains) and their guides are exceptionally knowledgeable and will strive to ensure the client gets value for both time and money.
Wildforntiers run both private and scheduled trips to the falls. The scheduled Murchison Falls Boat Safari trips depart at 9:00 am (morning session) and 2:00 pm for the afternoon.
Private boat trips are highly tailormade with an added advantage of being picked and dropped off at your lodge if staying at properties like; Bakers Lodge or Murchison river lodge
