How to get to Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park can be easily accessed from Kampala and Entebbe via road or flight. The process of either driving or Flying to Murchison Falls National Park is relatively less complicated due to the improved road network and daily flight connections within Uganda. There are also several entry points/gates into the park, so access is easy no matter where you’re coming from.
Getting to Murchison Falls National Park from Entebbe
There are two (02) ways to get to Murchison falls National park from Entebbe City. You can either drive or Fly.
- Driving to Murchison falls from Entebbe takes about 4 – 5 hours if driving direct without stopping at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route to Murchison Falls National Park. Otherwise, if you opt to stop at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, then factor in an extra 45 minutes which makes the drive 5 – 6 hours.
- Flying from Entebbe to Murchison Falls is just under 02-hours. Aerolink Uganda and BAR aviation operate daily scheduled flights from Entebbe and Kajjansi airport to Murchison Falls National Park.
Getting to Murchison Falls National Park from Kampala
There are two (02) ways to get to Murchison falls National park from Kampala. You can either drive or Fly.
- By road from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park:
From Kampala, it takes approximately 4-6 hours (305 km) to drive to Murchison Falls National Park’s Paraa sector which is only 85km from Masidi Town.
This is the most direct route and is often used by many travelers to Murchison National Park from Kampala. This route gets you into Murchison falls National park via the southern gate of Kichumbanyobo.
Alternatively, travelers can opt to enter Murchison falls National Park using the northern gates at Purongo or Tangi on the highway to Pakwach.
This Northern route is a great option for travelers coming from the north and west Nile districts of Gulu, Lira, soroti, south Sudan, Kidepo Valley National Park, Pakwach, and Aruu in DR Congo.
- By air from Kampala to Murchison Falls NP:
It is possible to fly to the park by either a chartered flight or the daily scheduled flight from Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala or Entebbe International Airport landing at Pakuba or Bugungu airstrip (nearest to the Park headquarters in Murchison falls National park. The flight from Kajjansi or Entebbe Airport is just under 2 hours.
Travelers Advise: The most convenient airfield to fly into Murchison falls National Park is Pakuba because you fly right into the wildlife hotspot of the park. You get to enjoy a mini Safari en route to your Lodge.
Only choose to fly into Murchison Falls through Chobe airstrip if staying at Chobe Safari Lodge. If you get this wrong, the transfer to your lodge might turn out as a disaster characterized by a long drive to get there.
