Budongo can be visited all-year-round. However, it is at its best in the Dry season months of November to February, and in the middle of the year when the rainy season rains temporarily reduce in the months of June and July. The fairly dry and less slippery forest trails make chimpanzee tracking and birding much easier than in the rainy season.
**If chimpanzee habituation is the reason you are reading about and considering to visit Budongo Forest, please not that chimpanzee habituation in Budongo can only be done in the low season which unfortunately falls in the rainy season months of April, May and November. Remember to bring waterproof hiking boots, rain jacket or a poncho these will help keep you fairly dry on the track.

Budongo is located about 300km(186mi) north of Kampala. The drive takes at least four (04) hours. It is also possible to fly to Pakuba or Bugungu Airfields in Murchison Falls National Park aboard a scheduled or chartered flight from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) or Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala.
Entebbe International Airport (EBB) will be your entrance into Uganda. Its location is about 46km/29mi from Kampala. It is customary that your local tour operator will pick you up from the airport on the day of your arrival. An overnight hotel stay in Entebbe is highly recommended if flying out through Entebbe Airport the next morning.

Budongo eco-lodge is the only place to stay in Budongo. This lodge is very basic and serves the purpose. Stay at Budong Eco-lodge means you don’t have to wake up early the morning of your chimpanzee trek.
Among other lodging options to consider staying at are the luxurious Bakers lodge, moderately priced Murchison River lodge, and the very pocket-friendly Redchill Rest camp. However, the drive between these properties and Budongo Forest is approximately 1-hour (one way).
