The Red Chilli Rest Camp is currently the only budget accommodation situated inside Murchison Falls National Park. The camp offers a variety of budget options ranging from; “Do It Yourself – DIY” camping to superior family banda with ensuite bathrooms.
The Red chill Rest camp is located approximately 500m from the ferry landing where all vehicles queue up to cross the Nile for game drives and it’s also here that trips to the Falls and the Delta depart from.
Red chilli Rest Camp provides basic African Safari accommodation – Don’t expect any luxuries like a 3-course fine dining experience….
HOW TO GET TO RED CHILLI REST CAMP
By public transport
You can catch a bus daily from Kampala to either Pakwach or Masindi, but there is no public transport from either town going into the park (approx 80Km). Contact the Redchilli camp to arrange a transfer from Masindi to the camp. Alternatively, see our list of local tour Operators based in Masindi to arrange a transfer to the Red Chilli Rest Camp.
By Road (Self or Chauffer Driven)
From Kampala, take the Gulu highway as far as Kafu bridge where you turn left to Masindi. On reaching Masindi, turn right opposite the Shell Station onto the dirt road towards Murchison Falls National Park. After around 10 to 15 km, turn left (signposted) and continue to the Park gate. From there it is approximately 60km to the Red chilli Rest camp, look out for a “red hot” signpost on the left-hand side while on the main road, just before you reach the river – Don’t hesitate to ask if not sure of the route as most Ugandans are generally friendly and willing to assist tourists.
You can also enter the park from Tangi or Wankwar gates on the North bank of the Nile, but please bear in mind the ferry crossing times are strictly adhered to:
Ferry Crossing Times
07:00am, 08:00am, 09:00am, 11:00am, 12:00noon, 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm and the last crossing is at 7:00pm.
Park Entry is permitted as early as 07:00 am until 7:00 pm. (Please refer here for Uganda Wildlife park entry fees)
